A chip or crack in a window often occurs during the normal operation of the vehicle.  Sometimes it’s a rock that strikes the window, or something else entirely that creates a chip or a crack in the window – and this issue must be addressed as soon as possible before a crack spreads across the entire windshield.

A window repair often costs less than a window replacement, however, you need to know what to expect. Once the damage to the window is inspected, it can be determined if a chip or crack repair is an option.  Please contact us to schedule an appointment to help make this determination.

A chip or crack repair involves injecting a liquid resin.  This liquid resin bonds to the break in the glass, making the glass less likely to obtain further damage.

We may often think that a window repair means that when the crack or chip is removed, you won’t see it anymore.

This simply isn’t the case.

A chip repair doesn’t remove the break in your windshield.  The process fills in gaps with the resin, and often the resin may still be seen.

The resin used in the process curates to form a bond that is much stronger than if the windshield is left unrepaired.

As the resin curates, there may still be a visible mark where the was a crack or chip was located.  This visible mark is completely normal.

In the best of circumstances, a good repair may look like a blemish.  However, some may leave more of a scar on the glass.

Still noticeable, but at least safe.

Here are some common types of chips:

Before considering chip repair, please consider the following:

  1. There is a limit to the size of breaks that can be repaired.
  2. Although less noticeable after a repair,  it most likely will still be visible.
  3. Repairs are not recommended for the driver’s critical viewing area.
  4. A repair only strengthens the glass at the point of repair and helps it from cracking further.
  5. In rare instances, there could be a chance of the windshield breaking or getting worse while a repair is being done.
